SharePoint 2013 Certification Exams

Since Microsoft released SharePoint Server 2013 RTM, SharePoint community is heavily using it and trying to learn the new features. To test your SharePoint 2013 skills and get more job opportunities in your career you may think to take Microsoft certification exams. As usual Microsoft is working on the new certification paths for SharePoint Server 2013. But before talking about SharePoint specific certification issues, I have to mention about the change in Microsoft certification names.

Microsoft changed the existing Existing MCTS, MCITP, and MCPD certifications to Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD), and Microsoft Certified Solutions Master (MCSM). Microsoft states the reason is better reflecting the experience, knowledge, and skills that IT professionals and developers need to build and manage technology solutions that may include multiple technologies, whether on-premises or in the cloud.

In Microsoft Learning site you can see that there are two SharePoint certifications which are MCSE: SharePoint and MCSM:SharePoint. For detail information on these certifications: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/sharepoint-certification.aspx

There is also a Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA) certification for SharePoint. Please note that before earning an MCA certification, you must earn a Microsoft Certified Master (MCM) certification or Microsoft Certified Solutions Master (MCSM) for SharePoint.

For developers there is a  MCSD certification for SharePoint applications which cannot be easily found on Microsoft Learning site. When I passed 70-480 Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3 exam, it appeared on my certification planner. As you can see in the screenshot below, if you don’t have MCPD: SharePoint Developer 2010 certification you have to pass three exams, 480,489, and 488. Otherwise you need to pass the upgrade exam #493.
